Halloween Horror Nights is an annual after-hours theme park event at Universal Orlando Resort and its been named The Countrys Best Halloween Event by Amusement Today. It began with a single haunted house in 1991 and billed as Fright Nights for three days (The HHN name was adopted the next year). It has evolved into a 23-night event featuring several themed houses plus stage shows and menacing street performers (some wielding chainsaws, VERY scary).

Horror Nights began at Universal Studios, but moved for a few years to sister park Islands of Adventure in 2002. In 2004, both parks were used before moving back to the Studios in 2006. Classic characters such as Frankenstein and Dracula have been incorporated, but Universal has also developed new characters for theming and marketing. Among these creatures are Jack (a demented clown), the Caretaker, the Director (an Eastern European who specialized in snuff films) and the Storyteller, an oddly hypnotic old woman.

In 2007, an agreement with New Line Cinema allowed more modern icons to be used for Horror Nights and the main Characters were based on the popular films Friday The 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Thing, Dead Silence and some of the most CHILLING houses from horror nights past. A Rocky Horror Picture Show revue also was added.

Some of the 2007 Highlights:
Ringmaster Jack transforms the streets of Halloween Horror Nights into a spine-tingling, multi-sensory spectacle! See such sinister sideshows as the Rat Lady, the Chainsaw Drill Team, Motormaniacs, Killer Carnies, and the Troupe Macabre
2008 brought Reflections of Fear and was the the most frightening ever in Halloween Horror Nights 18-year history, and themed after urban legends; popular billboards showcased the mascot- Bloody Mary, a woman that comes out of mirrors to find her lost child and murder those who call upon her.

There were many various haunted houses such as a nightmarish fairytale world, behind Marys mirror, zombies, and more. There were also many new scarezones- Asylum in Wonderland, with an evil Alice; a schoolhouse with murderous children; an evil Oz where the wicked witch has killed past characters and now reigns, and other twisted fairytale nightmares.

Tony Timpone, Editor of Fangoria Magazine, said, After visiting scream parks all across the US for the last 20 years, I can easily say that Universals is the best in the business Halloween Horror Nights is the ultimate Halloween experience.

Bill & Teds Excellent Halloween Adventure debuted in 1993 and is back for 2009. The sometimes naughty stage show is a comic musical parody that skewers current events and personalities.
