New for 2012 model year, as mid-year models just announced – two new models from Harley-Davidson. The first is an incredibly cool XL1200V called the 72. Before we go too far into what this bike is, here is a little information about the name. It has nothing to do with 1972, it relates to a car and motorcycle craze years back that all started in California on Rt. 72, that is where a large section of car and motorcycle shops along a few miles of Rt. 72 started this whole customizing craze. It was a style that was new & cutting edge, from the bikes to the Low-rider cars, and vans of that era.
The new 72 has that very early Sportster customized look with the small 2.2 gal tank, along with the skinny from 21 front tire making a comeback, that had disappeared for a couple of years recently. Also, a new addition of the time period, are the skinny whitewalls that are on the 72 as well, and a new color special to the model called Hard Candy Big Red Flake. You have to see it in person to appreciate it as it totally represents the paint jobs of that era, and is incredibly sticking.
The second new mid-year model from H-D just announced is the new Harley Davidson Softail Slim. It is in my mind a combination of the Fatboy Low and Blackline. It has the front end of the Harley Davidson Fatboy, and the skinny rear tire with a bobber look on the tail section. It is also a look that goes back to just after WWII, at that time when the soldiers were returning with a pocket full of money and looking for something to fill the thrill of their fighter planes that they were flying as pilots. The returning soldiers would take their H-Ds and strip it of any and all additional weight that they could to make a bike that would be more nimble, but more importantly lighter. And lighter equals faster. The thrill was back!!
Other points to remember and to stress to our customers, with such a mild winter sales have been extremely brisk!! We are currently selling and even selling future bikes ordered. Sold before they even get here, reminds me of bikes sales 10 years back! But there still are bikes to be had, the good news is since we are selling, we are getting additional bikes awarded to us as well from H-D. Basically if you are thinking a new bike this year, apparently so are a lot of other people, dont wait.
